Correct me if I’m wrong. Before the crimea invasion the people there voted to join Russia because they were more Russian than Ukrainian but ukraine wouldn’t give it up leading the to invasion. If that’s the case why can’t the ceasefire come with citizens voting to be Russia or Ukraine?

Putin himself said during the meeting that he won’t agree to a total ceasefire. Also, Trump said that he wasn’t going to make a peace deal on Ukraine’s behalf. He believes that Ukraine should work out the details of a peace deal with Russia. What Trump did say is that he was able to “set the table” so to speak. He got Putin to agree to come to the negotiating table with Ukraine and the U.S. would be an observant “third party” at the table. Trump also said that he’s considering joining Europe’s stance on the war itself, that he’s willing to hit Russia with even more sanctions, and that he will consider putting harsher sanctions on any nation that buys Russian products. There’s gonna be people who still try to portray Trump negatively after this but Putin even admitted earlier this year that he wouldn’t have invaded Ukraine in 2022 if Trump was in office 😂
