A former security guard at an obstetrics and gynecology center who is suing rapper Cardi B for assault was the first witness in her trial in Los Angeles County Superior Court today (Monday, August 25). Emani Ellis alleges Cardi, legal name Belcalis Almanzar, assaulted her at an OB-GYN office in 2018. Cardi says Ellis was the aggressor who tried to film her pregnancy before it was public. Ellis said she didn’t tell anyone Cardi was the facility and merely exclaiming out loud when she saw Cardi on the 5th floor.
"I said something along the lines of, 'That looks like Cardi B' or, 'Wow, that's Cardi B.'" "After she heard me say her name, she turned back around, and the first thing out of her mouth was, excuse my language was, why the fuck are you telling people that you see me? At this time, I tried to calm her down and assure her that I didn't tell anyone that I seen her, and she was extremely upset." Ellis said Cardi told her, "That's why you do security. That's why you do security. She was sticking her tongue out. She was flailing her arms up and down. She was jumping up and down. Body shaming me, I mean, racial slurs, just a lot." Trial continues today (Tuesday, August 26) in Los Angeles County Superior Court. Cardi lawyers in this case are the same lawyers who represented her in trial when a surfer in Orange County, California, sued her for allegedly misappropriating his likeness on the cover to her mixtape "Gangsta Bitch Music, Vol. 1" by using a piece of his back tattoo in the art work. Cardi won that case, and she could cruise to victory in this case, too, after Peter Anderson's cross-examination of the plaintiff on Monday (August 25). Lisa Moore is Cardi's lawyer in Atlanta, Georgia, who also represented her in the trial over her defamation lawsuit against YouTuber Tasha K. Anderson is a partner at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP in Los Angeles who has represented many musicians in intellectual property cases, including Taylor Swift, the late Ozzy Osborne and The Weekend as well as Green Day. Anderson also defended Led Zeppelin in precedent-setting copyright litigation over the band's iconic "Stairway to Heaven." #cardib #celebrity #law #crime #court
