Japan can't decide what frequency to be on. I'll keep my ground.

As a 30 year builder electrician I can say ground isn’t doing much. GFCI does the safety work much bette. 11 bucks an outlet is worth it if you are worried about shock. But I’ve been shocked 100 times and still only mildly affected 😂

As soon as you said Japan drives on the left, any semblance of “Japan is actually better” went right out the window 🤣🤣🤣

The "ground" we usenos literally just a secondary safety measure if there is a problem with the "neutral" so the electricity has another path to ground. the neutral goes back to ground, the electrical circuit wouldn't work if it didnt cuz the electricity would have nowhere to flow. thats why main panels tend too have the neutral and ground bonded as they go to the same place in the end. houses in the US used to only have the two wires instead of the now three

You only need an earth pin if the device isn’t protected by double insulation. RCD protect people circuit breakers protect the cable. Simple electrical Knowledge

Ever since I used an electrical cord that had the 3rd prong broken off it, I always thought it was useless bc the cord worked just fine

As an electrician I'll explain - all the earth does is bring the surface of metal appliances to the same potential, it also means if internally a live cable touches the metal casing it will short rather than liven the casing. An earth doesn't really matter if your appliance doesn't have any external metal casing, and to my knowledge a residual current safety device would still activate without the earthing on an appliance (as long as the house has sufficient earthing)

The reason they don’t have the third wire (the ground) is beauracracy. They want to require an electrician to install any device with a metallic case
