It was confirmed in silent hill 4 by James’ father that James took his wife to see silent hill and never left. It makes me wonder did she even have cancer or he had a mental break at silent hill and the cancer was him trying to justify his actions to himself despite repeating his experience over and over.

The loop theory has been around since the original and Bloober confirmed that they included the idea in the remake of James in a loop as fan service to the fans and theorists. Its not meant to be taken entirely as canon, it's just there for fun, but it is ultimately up to your interpretation.

Also, the less you die in the game, the less bodies you'll see! On a zero death run, you only see one the same James body as in the og game but that's it!

it's a cool theory but I hate how people talk about it as if it's confirmed, when most of these details are ambiguous and can be taken in a completely different way. the loop and Silent Hill being a purgatory stems from misunderstandings about how the power of the town works, especially among those who've only played the second game and aren't familiar with Alessa's story.
