@furahameansjoy: Replying to @MalikaNgozi🇸🇩🇵🇸🇨🇩 and I have one more thing to say about this actually!! It just occurred to me that a lot of anti AA sentiment rn is anti imperialism sentiment being redirected into the population this country is trying to make the FACE of US imperialism that folks are falling for #beyoncepropaganda #tylacoloured #diasporawars #usimperialismisglobalterrorism #americanexceptionalism
I don’t necessarily agree with you on this. Their history is not of empire of course but there has been a constant stream of antagonism content from certain content creators that has meant that people’s view of BA has changed in some way. Not saying it’s one way but there seems less likely to be a open and honest conversation of why that antagonism exists

This is a very good observation. For Black Americans we see our history as a history of resistance AGAINST the empire and we are proud of it. That’s why the scrutiny and dismissal of our Ancestors and elders and their contributions and sacrifices i.e. our culture are part of the underlying problem not being addressed as what started a lot of this discourse.

The US is a settler colonial empire and Black americans and our culture are the extractions. It's so odd to see many folks connect the dots to the US empire and "Israel" but completely miss the mark on marginalized groups forced to build the US.

Yes, they see us as apart of the empire instead of a colonized people inside of the empire. Which is why we as black Americans cannot act like being apart of the empire through assimilation is worth a damn. Because look! lol

Funny how they attack AA as being proxies for American empire but have no issues with their own neolib governments and the intelligentsia in their own countries being proxies for imperialism.

Exactly! We have no control over the US using our images abroad. That’s part of our enslavement! They trot us out at will and consume our culture and pass it off as their own to hide their anti-black racism. And Black ppl outside of the US somehow read it as us shoving it down their throats when we have nothing to do with it.

People fail to realize how Black American identity and lives operates within the frame work of American imperialism. However, to see folks trying so hard to use us as the face of it is so hilarious.

What do you mean by "history of empire"? Didn't the Brits have an empire? What about the French?

Nicki minaj is more Indian than tyla 😂Y'all keep equating tyla to biracial 😂she's literally a coloured south african. Which means black creole. They are a 350 yr old African creole ethno-culture with a specific heritage/history/culture. Not random biracials but

Unfortunately, we are being talked about but rarely being talked to. There’s a belief that all black peiple living in the west live within the same culture as we do, and there’s an aggressive response when we push back against this idea. If we are different, we must be really saying we think we are better. Even if we explicitly say “different”

I did my undergrad thesis on the distribution and impact of translations of essays from the Harlem Renaissance in the French colonial diaspora. Black liberation thought leaders have been sharing their life’s works across oceans and language barriers waaay before we had access to the level of connection and technology we have now. We can and have done so much better as a diaspora.

I see what your saying and even though it’s hard for some folks Black American History is tied to empire but it’s not the story of empire because the empire does everything to scrub Black Americans from its telling of history.
