In Canada we would put ice in to a glass and pour the drink in. If we don’t want it to be watered down we drink faster. But heck! I’m gunna try this!

It's true, it's all about heat transfer and surface contact. By rotating the can, the liquid inside is moving around with different parts touching the wall so the heat will dissipate quicker. Imagine a bowl of soup and blowing on it to cool the entire thing down but not stirring it..
