I know! I used to be a visual manager for 10 yrs. and quit in 2015. They got rid of all the stores visual team around 2017 and now have the home office make plan a grams that every store follows. And the sales manager puts out. Absolutely no creativity any more. It’s so sad. Also the design team is all over the place they don’t know if they are free people or ann Taylor

This is what happened to White House/Black Market. In the 90’s it was eclectic small brands and where you went to find something *different* I still have a dress from the OG store. Then it turned into the Amazon-esque mess it is today. I’m assuming it was purchased by private equity

There was a time when 85% of my closet was Anthropologie. I stopped shopping there three years ago when I realized the quality of their clothes had gone to hell.

It shifted when they got rid of all the home goods - it used to be a cohesive lifestyle they were presenting and something about taking all the odds and ends away made them lose focus and took away their touchstone. So now you get a lot of unfocused weirdness in a less good way.
