When my mom died, I called my (ex) spouse crying and asking them to come home. They responded “she’s dead and how is that my problem?” Hung up on me and didn’t come home until many hours later after the shift was over & pretending life was good.

Even if OP wasn't close to her mom, that doesnt mean she wouldn't grieve her and what could have been. I went into a mental spiral after my cousin who i saw maybe once every 3 years died.I was grieving the loss of her life but also feeling guilt for us growing apart and grieving for her kids that would now grow up without their mom. You dont have to be super close to someone to grieve the loss of them.She was clearly grieving and needed comfort.
