To be fair there is a town in Ohio called Gahanna. I think that’s pretty close to Hell.

exactly above all God is a Merciful God and why would God punish man for eternity for only 1 lifetime of sin? It makes no sense.

revelation 21:8? But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” the second death is the lake of fire also what about sheol?

Yk I can rock with this tbh. One of my biggest things of not wanting to be a Christian is the concept of free will but eternal damnation for exorcising said free will. Like my pastor when growing up would always tell this little story right before the asking if anyone wants to give their life to Christ but the story would go like picture an old women. Cares for her community, does all good , never slights people and all that but because doesn’t believe or is in a different religion she’ll spend all of eternity burning in hell. Like even as a kid it never sat right with me.

Exactly. When the Bible talks about the fire of gehenna, it represents destruction or death and not everlasting suffering.

I think there’s little to no profit the way things were going, so they made up hell. basically, how much are you willing to pay for eternal life in “heaven”?.

Partially agree but also disagree on a lot. In the first 4 centuries (before institutionalized church) there was 3 main views, and all believed in some form of “hell”. Universalist believed that “Hell” was basically a purgatory, cleaning the soul. Annialationist for the most part believed that “hell” was a temporary punishment followed by non existence. And Infernalist believed in eternal “hell”. Infernalism has always existed within Christianity, at least since 2nd century, it probably didn’t become the majority view in the west until the 4th century (and especially after Augustine in 5th century) and not in the east until the 5th-8th century. And Jews did believe in an afterlife for the most part, and some believed in eternal punishment. Really only one main group reject an afterlife on any type. For example with the valley of hinnom (Greek gehenna) you had the 2 rabbinical schools during the time of Jesus, the hillel and shammai, both used the valley of hinnom as an example of some sort of punishment including that the most wicked will face an eternal state of ruin. But also teaching it as purification for most and annihilation for some. And we see the afterlife discussed heavily in the Jewish apocalyptic literature of the 3rd century BC-2nd century AD, in text like the enochian literature and 2 Baruch etc. And of course read the 1st century rabbinic literature of those in the Hillel and shammai schools

Out of curiosity, how would you explain Mathew 25:31 onward, does he not clearly say that he’s sending people, human people, to the place of torment?

You could very well be correct, however I don’t see how “Matthew 5:29-30” can be translated as anything other than hell, as the way it’s spoken is “thrown into” and other translations are “plunged into” are the most accurate translations (if you read it you’ll know what I’m talking about) there is one about being “placed into” which is a translation however not the most accurate. Besides all that mannerisms of speach were different back then and “Matthew 10:28” says (ending of what was said) “fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gahenna” which sounds alot more like being erased from existence than being sent to the modern idea of hell. So I can see both sides but I personally believe in hells existence simply due to the way things are worded beyond just “Matthew 5:29-30”, either way though I try not worry about it because it isn’t my goal to make it out of hell/being erased from existence, but rather to be a better person who may live eternally in heaven with Jesus.
