@thetierraburns: My friend and I were talking (both parents, both therapists) and one of the things I always remind her of is that as parents we have to train and teach kids because they truly don’t know and sometimes don’t understand. Sometimes parents we treat kids or teens as if they know already and instill fear in them instead of taking the time to teach, explain, and build a safe respecting relationship beyond fear.
