@itsme_lisap: People talk about marriage these days like it’s some sort of prison sentence destined to end in unmet expectations and broken promises. And although that may be true for far too many people, for me, my marriage was where I could find peace, joy, safety, and unbridled happiness. My husband is the best person I know. His generous heart and his passion for life is infectious. His way of making every moment fun, silly and full of love is why I easily fell in love with him. We have been inseparable since we met. Two pieces of a whole that I never had to question. Our love is my anchor in this life. It’s the one thing I could depend on, lean against and never worry about it wavering. We had a whole life planned out. We had adventures we would dream about and family moments we looked forward to. We were building a family legacy based on love, openness, joy and gratitude. For those asking in the comments, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease is a prion disease (abnormally folding proteins that can self-replicate). It’s an incurable, degenerative neurological disease that can be acquired, genetic/familial, or sporadic.

May I ask how long it's been since he was exposed? We were in Europe at the time of this and until recently we couldn't give blood or plasma. A friend of ours lost her husband to it also. I worry about how long it really lays dormant

No sugarcoating it, CJD is one of the worst diagnoses you could get. I’m so sorry Lisa. This is so unfair. I hope you husband has as much peace as he can during this final chapter. And while this situation is incredibly cruel, you are a kind, clever and capable woman, its so unfair that you have to go through this, but you *will* get through this, and you have people across the world in your corner. Oh Lisa, I’m so sorry. It’s such a cruel disease that no one should ever have to endure. There is a great support network run by the CJD foundation. I learned about it last year from Allison Raskin who lost her mom to this horrible disease

I am so very sorry. My best friend and law partner of 15 years was diagnosed with sporadic CJD last June. It came for him so quickly, with no warning. The heartbreak of this disease is overwhelming. I am so sorry you and your children are going through this. Hold tight to your love.
