if your cardiovascular health is good it only takes a 1 min - 1.5 min for your heartbeat to recover, but for the metabolites to leave your muscle it takes 2-3 min. so what I like to do is after a set I rest for 1.5 min and then train a different muscle and then after that I wait 1.5 min and train the muscle I was doing before. for example i do cable curls rest 1.5 min and then do overhead tricep extensions
