@mrphoenixgrey: PSA: Step away from the paintbrush and put down the white paint. While I’m all for a good glow-up, some things in a period home deserve to be left alone, like a brick fireplace. It’s the architectural equivalent of a vintage leather jacket: sure, you could paint it, but why would you? Updating it without paint keeps it budget-friendly and future-proof—just in case this isn’t your forever home… or you end up selling to someone who actually likes bricks. . . #r#renovationi#interiordesignh#homerenovationr#remodel
Honestly if you don’t dig the brick (tragic) this is the best way to go about it .

I actually like the peek a boo brick. Keeps the character without destroying it in blandness.

The only warning I would have is you can never use this as a real fireplace (but given the candles I’m assuming that’s not the goal. But fireplaces have some pretty high fire ratings that the wood (and likely the paint) won’t hold up to. But this is a nice way to modernize the brick that doesn’t destroy the brick.

Like not only did they protect the brick, the final result is also actually really decent

I love that!! It looks classic, and better designed than painting the brick!🙌🏻

I really wish that people would go back to living in their own house and decorating it however they wanted. I'm so tired of the internet thinking that they have an opinion when they're not paying any bills

I had to paint mine white because the previous owner had painted it an awful yellow color. Broke my heart tbh.
