I've been trying to be more intentional with my own screen time so my son doesn't see me on my phone all the time. I try to be as present with him as possible. This is big for feeding time! it's so tempting to just scroll tiktok while feeding but that's such an important time to bond and make eye contact and communicate!

This! I’m not a parent, but a former preschool teacher. So everything with this lol. And also, as I’m sure you don’t, the amount of parents that say they don’t understand why kids are obsessed with screens, but are also obsessed with their phones? Like, your kids just gonna copy what they see. So if you’re on your phone all the time your child is going to want to be on a phone too. And I think that’s the hard part for some parents? I’m not a mom yet, but I assume that’s the hard part. Modelling what minimal to zero screen time looks like lol

I think some technology is okay. Relying on technology to care for your kid is not. Going from nothing to all the time could be a lot for some people

there's a dad on tiktok who is pro screens because he thinks it's the future and then says there's good ways to use a screen but he's also pro AI he thinks he's doing montessori but not all child autonomy is montessori AI definitely isn't

My son went to Montessori from second grade through eighth grade. We went to Disney one year and we’re in the airport and there was a kid with an iPad and obviously I wasn’t gonna say anything to the parents but my son walked by he’s like oh crap don’t let my mother talk to you“. And we just had a good laugh about that because I did have a big problem with a two-year-old on an iPad.

I could read all the way through cuz of your head but yea I live with 2 very aggressive mean dramatic ipads kids they have been through many and its all they ever do anymore hardly and the ones recently broke and so now hes using the phone because the adult couldnt standing the follow through of taking it away so now she looses her phone every day to him mind you they both preteens and act like what a raging toddler is. my 3 yesrold who's nonverbal acts better....its horrible.

We use reading apps and math and we do it together for fine motor. The tablet when used correctly. Part of it is due to the burnout that families with two working parents face who do not have a village or respurce. Tablets can be used in houghtful meaningful ways.
