@ragdollatticus: This post is not to shame anyone, but to educate! Shelters will keep getting overrun if we keep supporting backyard breeders. Pets aren’t a cute, spur of the moment decision, they deserve to be thought about and planned for for their whole lives!! Please if you want to buy a breed of cat or dog, do your research for ethical breeders, ragdolls are not supposed to be cheap! If you can’t afford one from a good breeder you likely won’t be able to afford to care for one properly as they tend to come with more issues than a moggy likely will🫶🏼 #ragdoll #backyardbreeders #ethicalbreeder #adoptorshopresponsibly #pets4homes
Whilst I agree with what you’ve said, I don’t like the idea of telling people to completely avoid backyard breeders, because what happens to the litters that are already born? My second cat was from a dodgy so called breeder and I felt compelled to take him away from them and so I bought him regardless of the potential health issues. Turns out he had no real serious problems.

Say it louder!! 🥰 it’s so good to spread awareness of this! If you can’t shop responsibly then adopt and save a fur baby ❤️

A good breeder can also save you vet bills. If they are ethically bred, they will have less issues. The breeder is more familiar with the breed so a lot of times their advice is more appropriate. A good breeder doesn’t just care about their cats until they are sold, but it’s a lifelong relationship. I send updates about Duchess every 3 months to her and every time I have a serious dilemma, I can ask her🥰

this is exactly what we did with our Burmese. our breeder is excellent and our kitten is incredibly well socialized. we have never seen her anxious about anything except her reflection in the mirror, and the fire alarm (but she got over that so quickly). that's what you get when you get a cat from an ethical breeder.

100% agree. We have a moggy and two Maine coons. We did our research and brought from a fab breeder. I understand adopt dont shop but if everyone stopped, breeds would die out. We’d have no more Maine coon, ragdolls, Persians, Bengals etc. Just need responsible breeders only breeding. Not backyard

yes yes yes! i also did a post as a cat mum of a rescue kitty (also a vet med student!) 💜 I prefer adoption where possible but if not then you must get a cat from an ethical breeder! Really hating this trend where people are getting cats (mainly ragdolls from what i’ve seen) from Pets4Homes. No ethical breeder will be selling on there. Also like you’ve said pedigree cats often have many more health issues that a moggie

you're so right❤️pets are forever and not an accessoire❤️i didn't choose my boys, they were too young to be apart from their mother when found at 6 weeks old but i'm trying my best to give them a good life and hopefully have them forever❤️❤️❤️
