We have a death word! Only the two of us know it and it goes to our grave. When one of us dies, the medium must first say our death word so we know we’re talking to the right person.

When we ask each other if something is fine in front of other people but it would be awkward to say the real answer, we either say “yeah, no that’s fine!” Or “no, yeah that’s fine!” And the first yes/no is the real answer.

Yup. “Blueberry” means, hey maybe slow down just a bit on the booze. Pace yourself. Works both ways. Not embarrassing or controlling. Helpful. “Strawberry” means, hey miss you. Can we find a corner of this party and just reconnect for 5. It’s a way of asking for some support and security without feeling needy. 🥰

its really important do do this wirh kids too! Im allergic to bananas, so mine will look at me and say hey, can we go get a banana? im kinda hungry, I know it means they are uncomfortable and need to step away and tell me something. its really helpful!

Ours is “Catfood”. It started as a test to see if Alexa would start giving us ads and was listening to us, before we had kids and had no cats. It morphed into our word for the other one to look at what our kids were doing without disrupting them by saying their names.
