Love your videos. Always fascinated by old maps. They do make me wonder how good were cartography capabilities. And I do think if the cartogrrapher had no direct visual or physical contact with an area, there were other sources to get that information, like word of mouth, old seafaring accounts, old legends or so-called myths, and no doubt overland known trade routes. We have satellite imagery today to make accurate images of course but in ancient times, and even in the 15th and 16th centuries, maps were not compiled by a single person traveling within one group, but were compiled and drawn using info from a lot of sources, including hearsay. So yes, you do wonder how the strange places are on a map that aren't there today. Or were they sunken or washed away? 🤔
