I would rather live in Florida and deal with hurricanes than deal with tornadoes

Yeah, that Gerald one was bad that had us. I was in fifth grade that thing had us lockdown in our school and a couple different rooms because there were no basements in the schools of course for basically the whole day we start laughing in our classrooms quickly move into the closest interior rooms without windows that we had which was a music room and one other room we hadI have no idea how many children but five grades for the children and all the staff crammed into those two fairly small rooms all day. Yes literally all day from about 10 o’clock in the morning I think until about 2 o’clock in the afternoon.

The ef4 that hit my college drove shards of glass into my basement dorm room’s interior cinder block wall. It picked up the slate roof off another dorm and flung it UNDER the 20-ish parked cars out front.

One of the top 20 tornadoes was about 40 miles from my house then lifted and dropped a tornado in my town so the storm that produced a top 20 tornado also produced a tornado in my town

Was in joplin for clean up and possible rescue. You could see across the town. From the old Walmart parking lot to the old St. John’s hospital. It ripped a wall off a house and somehow left a china cabinet completely intact.

My family helped with clean up after the Joplin tornado, and the destruction was indeed insane. my brother in law actually lived there when it happened. he's still kinda traumatized from it

Earlier this year was the 100th anniversary of the 1925 tri-state tornado which travelled for 219 miles (352 km). It started in southeast Missouri and traveled across southern Illinois before dissipating in southwest Indiana. That’s like a tornado starting at Buckingham Palace in London and traveling to the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris.

the craziest part of the jarrell TX tornado was once it got to that suburb it destroyed it stopped moving. that's why it ground everything in that area up to a fine powder. that's absolutely crazy to think about

I'm forever grateful to have born in Finland. There are no tornadoes, hurricanes or unmanageable wildfires. It gets cold in the winter but that's about it.

we had one pop up, literally, out of nowhere last night. it wasn't even windy and our sirens went off. no tornado watch beforehand, either. it was small but it did cause me some anxiety 😅
