If you have OCD do NOT do the first one. This is a common compulsion for us. Instead what you need to do is say "Maybe [the fear]" for example "Maybe I will get super sick and spread sickness to everyone I love" instead of reassuring yourself.

1/2 When I was younger and first starting seeing my therapist, I noticed she had a Barbie car in the corner. She explained that Barbie was in the front driving, and a monster high doll was in the backseat. I was Barbie and the monster high girl was my anxiety. Hanging out in the back, but not in control. And if she tries to distract me I can tell her to shush! It may sound silly but it stuck with me.

The reason cold water, sour candies, or any other physical stimulation helps is because it grounds us in our bodies and the here-and-now, slowing down/stopping the mental spiral of anxiety and rumination. Candies were even helpful for addiction cravings for my youth clients. ❤️

This just made me bawl my eyes out. I’m ALWAYS sitting on the floor in my hard days and I never knew why I did that. It makes sense now- I’ve always just wanted a hug on those days

#1. I call anxiety the devil Satan and I rubuke it, I cuss it out I tell it to stop putting fear dark evil thoughts in my mind. I yell at it to leave me alone, and it always does.

literally talk to yourself outloud. you keep the negative thoughts inside they buzz like bees, say them outloud and you’ll hear how untrue they are.

Okey #2 explains so much!! I always sit on the floor and always have. People think I’m weird for it. Now I know.

i speak to my anxiety all the time. “i understand you’re upset right now and you feel some type of way and you want me to engage but right now isn’t the correct time for that. we’ll revisit it at a later stage” - usually when it prevents me from sleeping and it works !!
