Пісня про те, що дівчина сирота закохалась у сербина. Вона має лише брата, а по давнім традиціям батьки мають дати дозвіл на заручини. Брата вона боїться просити, бо раніше серби вважались «іншими», інакше словом «не свої, чужі». Тому серб каже зачарувати брата. Дівчина йде у поле біля підгірʼя, під кущем калини знаходить гадину (змія, але в даному контексті отрута), підливає у пиво брату і отруює його. Брата завʼялило. В кінці дівчина звертається до серба, ніби вже немає перешкод на заручини, а той відповідає, «зчарувала брата свого, зчаруєш і миленького», натякаючи на відмову, недовіру до дівчини. Молодиця погубила брата через кохання, а в решті решт лишилась ні з чим.
