If you use 124 fingers with right hand on f,g, b it’s a much neater voicing that resolves to C 1st inversion much better

It’s the same function as a dominant chord. A major seven or a minor seven is very different from a major or minor chord, and a half diminished chord is more bittersweet than a diminished chord. You might as well throw the seventh in because it doesn’t alter the chord’s function

Because it tells you what chord it is. The 5th doesnt give you enough information. A full chord is the root, third, and 7th. That tells you exactly what chord it is.

Because they teach you the C Major scale chords first, and if they’re teaching you basic functional harmony then G7 is more relevant as a V chord than basic G

I learned my chords and then learned extensions. As an older beginner I get maybe learning 7ths sooner as they’ll be more frequently used. I taught my self 7ths after I already knew my base triads
