Its because Demons are explicitly not human in that setting. Its not like judeo-christian or DnD equivalents of demons where they have higher brain functions and understanding of greater concepts of personhood and humanity, but just a warped version of it. No, theyre literally animals who mimic elements of humanity, like language and appearance, as a defense mechanism in the same way a spider uses web or venom. They hunted the elves to near extinction like how an invasive species hunts native wildlife to extinction.

I don't know why people can't seem to acknowledge or accept that the story has shown the Demons to be fully sapient, therefore making their inherent evil bio-essentialism. Like, if they weren't written to have such humanistic mental capacity, then there would be nothing wrong with having them be universally evil monsters. As an example, the Girmm from RWBY aren't sapient, therefore their inherent evil/antagonistic role is fine.

They killed the elves because they’re the only species that can amass power over thousands of years far longer than they themselves can live it wasn’t a hate move it was a tactical one to secure their spot above the other species

I disagree. I think casting these things as acts of hatred lets people handwave the banally-evil pragmatism that I think is more prevalent in history than we want to admit. I am part of a historically disliked group, and one of the things we see throughout our history is that while many other groups do not like us, they often don't get actively violent until they see a practical upside to doing so: more land, more crops, women, etc. The Salem witch trials speak to me as an example here, because we have the records to see that the people making the accusations often materially benefitted from doing so: religiosity, or the emotional excuse, seemed to be a fig leaf over ruthlessness, allowing good-standing people to pretend they'd never act that way towards each other, just towards The Other.

life reflects art and vice versa, its irresponsible to write demons the way they were written, its no different to Lovecraft's very unsubtle racism towards non-white people if a creature can speak and comprehend common tongue, then writing them as pure evil is a trend even dnd has moved away from, not even tolkien felt that way about orcs all art IS political

They did it out of fear, because the demon king ordered them to, because he saw great potential in the elves' strength and saw it as a threat to him, and what happened? The elf that would end up killing him survived, the way you think is way too one-dimensional

Elves live nearly forever the two mages that surpass demons in mana and technique are elves, humans at the time didnt know magic at all with only elves being the real race knowing magic. They were genocided out of fear not hatred.

I think having them do it out of hate “humanizes” them in a way that doesn’t fit how the story characterizes demons, because they are consistently shown to not be human. They’re animals that act like humans in order to prey upon them, but they don’t actually feel emotions, or anything that would set them above other fantasy creatures in the world’s setting. They’re concerned with strength and survival, and saw elves as obstacles to that (for spoiler reasons I won’t say).

I interpreted it as that Demons are psychopathic in the most literal sense. They cant feel anything for others, only if something effects them personally; like fear or annoyance) It wasn't hate, just blatant cruelty. It brought some sick joy in hurting others. That said, I do agree making them german was in probably poor taste.

Whenever I feel like ragebaiting myself, I just read through Frieren fans trying to justify how the poorly written demons are actually "really well written". The story doesn't exist in the vacuum you think it does. The demons in Frieren *are* terribly written.
