@straighttothemusic: Fantasia Barrino: I chose to highlight her for a few reasons. I remember seeing her American Idol performance. I was around middle school age. We Watched her the whole season. Her singing, And her story, Just blew me away. It was inspirational to say the least. That season of American Idol. She was the star of black tv. For families everywhere we gathered in front of the tv to watch her perform time and time again. Especially towards the end. We would text to vote and then just wait to see her another week. This was prime time TV, and she was the star. ……And then… She finally won. And that moment felt like something that came full circle. Knowing her story of rape, domestic abuse and being a teen mom and then now to be live on National TV, it just all seemed to click. Just for her. And then you heard her sing… that song… the song… her song… “ I believe “. And you knew that it was made for her. The whole moment was. Since then she has created a long a prosperous career for herself. One of 20 years with her most recently playing in the color purple. To experience the things she experienced and have the start that she has had to now, the ups & downs. From a rape to an overdose. To now being who she is, I think is only a testament to what she’s accomplished and her strong will and faith. So even though I’m not a woman or a black woman. I love black women and this is a story that you think only Tyler Perry would create lol. Except it’s true and it’s hers. This is Fantasia Barrino.
