For all the misinformed on grabbing cats who are no longer kittens by their scruff. Yes, scruffing a grown cat can do real harm. Because their bodies are heavier than when they were kittens, lifting them by the scruff puts unnatural strain on the skin, muscles, and nerves in the neck and shoulders. This can lead to bruising under the skin, small tears in the muscle, pinched nerves, and even long-term sensitivity or pain in the area. In severe cases, especially with older or overweight cats, it can contribute to damage in the spine or cause difficulty moving their neck afterwards. Go ask your vet or I don't know, ask Google!
