Think current controlled current controller for a BJT and a voltage controlled current controller for a MOSFET except the latter are almost always used as switches ( on saturation)

It's good sometimes to add some pull down resistor between base and ground to be sure of that the base of transistor isn't "floating" and it's fully closed.
