I’m both a bartender and a flight attendant, so I can speak from experience: these are entirely different professions. In hospitality on the ground, my focus is guest satisfaction, timing, and service efficiency. In the air, my role is not just about serving drinks or snacks—it’s about safety, security, and emergency preparedness. Flight attendants are trained to handle medical emergencies, violent or disruptive passengers, evacuations, fire, depressurization, and countless other scenarios that can literally be life-or-death. The mindset, training, and responsibilities are completely different. Calling us ‘servers in the sky’ doesn’t just undervalue our work—it erases the professionalism, skill, and accountability required to operate a flight safely. I respect both jobs, but I also know exactly why they are not interchangeable.
