I grew up with my grandmother from Ireland telling me these same rules as well as others such as if you feel the woods become hostile you say loudly and calmly I am allowed to walk here and then leave the area swiftly but NEVER run. If you find yourself in a familiar area that suddenly doesn’t feel familiar anymore find a body of water like a creek or river and follow it. If you feel like you’re being followed but can’t see anything put your clothes on backwards (never understood that one lol) don’t ever whistle in the woods and definitely not at night anywhere don’t go into the woods after twilight ever it’s not our time to be there. I could go on and on lol

If you have to lock your windows and doors, what about when you have to take your dog out before bed? I mean, I know you wouldn't walk far, just a quick potty break, but is that OK? I love sleeping w the windows open in the spring and fall. Can't imagine not being able to do that.
