@kaja.jp: Just a few thoughts on my train from Ise to Nagoya🚞 I visited a friend and her brand new baby today in Ise, and walking around Ise and taking the 2-car train back to Nagoya reminded me of my time living in rural Aichi. 🏡There’s nothing quite like small town Japan. Sure - there’s not so much to do and it may be a little too quiet for a lot of people. But I’m so glad I started my life in rural Japan before moving to the big city. I think it allowed me to see so much more depth to Japanese society, culture, food, attitude… literally everything, than I would have experienced had I moved straight to the big city. People were so polite and excited to meet me and share local culture, customs, and food with me. I got invited to graduation ceremonies, Hanami, Hanabi matsuri, karaoke sessions… In Tokyo these kinds of interactions are far in between. People are overall much colder in Tokyo. Not that these connections don’t exist in Tokyo, they’re just much harder to find. If you’re considering moving to or traveling to Japan, please consider starting your time in a rural area, even if it’s just for 6 months. You’ll probably have an amazing time and it’ll give you so much perspective before moving on to the big city. #japan #japanlife #inaka #aichi #ruraljapan
