one thing that is also normal, is to give your neighbour an extra key. so when you look yourself out of your house, someone else has a key. or can take care of your animals or plants when you are on vacation

Our neighbors were on vacation for three weeks, and their package, which we accepted, also sat in our hallway for three weeks. It's perfectly normal here in a small village.

Welcome! Hope you keep on having these kind of experiences. Of course not everyone in the Netherlands is nice but in general we’re kind and welcoming. As anywhere there are a**holes, but stay close to the ones you’ve surrounded yourself now. Dutchies can be a bit hesitant or seem cold in the beginning but as we say: we like to watch the cat out of the tree, meaning first we’d like to know who we’re dealing with.

We have new neighbours this week and the whole street have send them a welcomcard or give flowera or homemade pie, because that is just simple and nice to do
