❗A Gentle Reminder for Minnesotans Who Value Integrity❗ Joel Runnels currently holds the title of Legislative Affairs Director at the Minnesota Council on Disability — a taxpayer-funded position meant to advocate for vulnerable communities. Charming, isn’t it? Especially when the role is filled by someone with a documented history of emotional manipulation and serial deception. During his USAID stints in Ghana, Jamaica, Kenya, and Uzbekistan, multiple women shared eerily similar experiences: romantic entanglements built on false claims of being “separated,” followed by abrupt emotional abandonment. In at least two cases, children were born — and he left the country without assuming responsibility. Now, it seems, the pattern continues right here in Minnesota. Let’s be clear: this isn’t a tabloid exposé. It’s a question of public ethics. When asked, the Council reportedly responded that his behavior doesn’t violate federal law or human rights policies. Well, that’s comforting. Apparently, the new standard for leadership is “not technically illegal.” So we ask — with all due respect and a dash of incredulity: Is this really the best we can do for disability advocacy? Public trust isn’t a luxury; it’s a requirement. Institutions that claim to champion equity and justice shouldn’t be in the business of selective blindness — especially when the harm is consistent, even if it’s not litigated. This isn’t cancel culture. It’s accountability culture. 🟣 The public deserves transparency.   🟣 The affected women deserve acknowledgment.   🟣 And our institutions owe us more than bureaucratic shrugs. If silence is the only response, perhaps it’s time to question who these councils truly serve — and whether integrity is still part of the job description.
