@thebishoptutu: Groceries are expensive and it is only getting worse. It is time to build a Depression era pantry with simple budget staples that will keep you fed no matter what. Flour, beans, rice, pasta, canned goods, sugar, salt and other basics are the key to surviving these rising food costs. Our grandparents knew how to stretch a meal and it is time we relearn those lessons. #groceryshopping #inflation

My grandmother went thru the depression & passed survival meals on to my mother. Beans, rice & cornbread was a staple on the table & still is in my home. I still make most things from scratch.

in my OPINION, do not forget to pay attention to whether or not you have an Asian market or Indian grocer nearby, I find that there are some staple items there that are priced decently

If you have leftovers, freeze them and use for another meal. Don’t waste it by throwing it out. Leftovers are delicious.

💯 Grow food if you can, too! If you don’t have a yard or access to land, get some buckets/containers.

I never expected my poverty upbringing by Depression Era parents in rural Appalachia would become on trend, but now is my time to shine, I reckon. I recently moved onto a few acres in an ag community that I plan to use to feed myself and give back.

Absolutely, yes! No more convenience foods and snacks for me. I started my depression era pantry in January. Even if funds are tight, a little adds up fast.

I was raised by old Appalachian folks. Those "struggle meals" are in my normal menu rotation. Matter of fact, I got pinto beans in my crock pot right now

I am only 51 but I think I lived through the depression in another life. I can pull meals out of nowhere and I can repurpose anything others would throw out.
