Mercator projection wasn't chosen because "it makes europe look bigger", its because it makes a very easy grid, with only straight lines. Too easy. Science isnt racist, this is. litterally making maps race oriented.

I agree tbh. A big problem I saw growing up is that the current map doesn't intuitively look like a globe and you can't really picture it as well. Lots of kids were appalled when they learned the quickest way from NY to Moscow was over the north pole. Seems easier to understand like this

I mean that map is also incorrect. Perhaps less so I guess. You really can't represent a sphere accurately in 2D

I thought it would be some huge difference, solving a long standing inequity. Instead it seems like a negligible difference in scale (much ado about nothing) and is much more difficult to read/use.

"No 2D map is going to be accurate" . so why still use the Mercator then? Is it even used in navigation anymore? . anyone who says it doesn't matter doesn't know the power of perception.
