This was actually an explanation of my way of avoiding the emotional side by intellectualizing it. And that worked until it didn’t

As a 46 yr old man that’s been automating and internalizing since childhood, it’s profoundly upsetting to come to the realization it’s a part of me I’ve built to survive that I need to let go 😢

Helping them understand that intellectualization is a coping mechanism to help them feel safe and kept them from feeling their emotions is what helps my clients get past it. Once they get it, they use intellectualizing as a signpost they’ve started resisting / stopped feeling

I also have ADHD and Dyslexia. Can you address how to get passed rejection sensitivity dysphoria? Neurodivergent people feel rejection in a different part of the brain that makes it feel more intense like physical pain. These intense emotions stimulate dopamine, which is the motivating chemical ADHD brains lack. So we react impulsively like a wounded animal protecting itself. Then the dopamine reinforces our behavior, while throwing in our sense of injustice. I can tell you in the moment it feels so good to follow all of those victimizing thoughts and connections. The verbal attack, weather aimed towards myself or someone I love, is reinforced by dopamine! 😩 It’s like this righteous anger propelling me forward until I let it all out. Then after hours of calming down, cycles in regret, shame, and pain of who I am and how I behaved. I was diagnosed late and lived most of my life not understanding what was wrong with me. I’m trying desperately to unmask and live authentically. But accepting myself and being vulnerable in a world that never understood me or my brain is so damn hard!

I love the hardware-software-operating system-coding analogy.. except you are using the terms inconsistently across your videos? Just a tip to review your own definitions here. Love you, grateful for your work, took a lot out of them already ❤️👌

When I'm trying to feel something, I keep checking out. Is that something that will get better? It is confusing honestly

I feel like I am somewhat stuck in this loop. I feel like I get out of my head during the 7 workshops, 2 deep dives, and 1 emergency session we've had, but then afterwards I get stuck right back in my internalizing brain... or I may just be depressed. This passed week was super tough.

I couldn’t agree with you more Trish. It wasn’t until I began feeling my way through my issues, that I started to see real progress.

Nailed it. Also, It shouldn’t come as a surprise that this video will have the most replays as us intellectualizers need to rewatch and intellectualize this over and over because it doesn’t compute. Eep-erp-beep-…
