@tanz.maniac: They swear that they can’t understand the nerd divergent experience. But if doctors simply listen to neurodivergent people, this would be common knowledge. While dyscalculia is more than just math dyslexia that’s a close enough explanation for anyone to understand.
wasn't a thing back in the 70s when I was in elementary school

Comrade Cornbread :
Genuine q: for someone w dyscalculia would it be easier to do math if written in words instead of numbers and symbols? Example: 2(18-9) + .5(10 x 2) vs “add the following: two times the result of eighteen minus nine, and half the result of ten multipled by two.”

yupppp. I had one teacher clock it, but instead of talking to me he recommended me for SpEd classes which... at that time, every kid only knew that as punishment for "bad" kids. no one was ever honest with us about it. so I didn't go to those classes. i didn't get any help I needed even tho the adults saw me struggling or their only solution was punishment 🙃

It took me years to figure this out. I wasn’t lazy in math like my teachers said, I was struggling all the damn time!

Does it include forgetting the numbers that follow after any 7’s (7,57,87,37) I will pause and struggle to get to the next number. Once I get the next number I fly through until the next 7

I didn't learn until recently that there's different varieties of dyslexia

Me.. yes, learned about it on this app a couple of years ago, immediately went straight to search mode about it.. I didn’t just suck at it, I had a damn math dysability😳😫 Reading the diagnostic&medical info on it, I kept getting so many flashbacks to my damn life. It took me so many years to finally learn how to read a damn analog clock, it was so embarrassing. Even then while I did learn and can read an analog clock it still takes me longer to read it than most people (varies on what the watch looks like, blank no dots no numbers nothing takes me the longest😫) I actually was great at algebra, geometry precalc: nooope

If a phone number doesn’t have the dashes the 4th digit disappears. Just gone.

Every teacher, every year, begging my mother to put me in sped for math.
Every year my mother threatening to sue the school for "denying her child a PROPER education" because they wouldn't(couldn't) FORCE me to learn the "normal way".
She also threatened to sue specific teachers who gave me accommodations without her permission claiming it was a "free pass to skate by with no consequences".🥺🥺🥺

I've been arguing with my mom about this for more than 5 years since learning the name, but I've said my entire life that numbers dance all over the page. they don't make sense

I’ve never been tested but I’m pretty sure I have this. I can’t do 4 function arithmetic and struggled with algebra, can’t even wrap my head around calculus, but did really well in high level statistics.
