I thought I didn't have special interests because I thought we had to know EVERYTHING about a topic to be able to consider it a special interest. so if I didn't know every bit of something, even if I could talk about it for hours and I was thinking of it all day everyday, I was like "meh, I don't have a special interest". I learned that it wasn't supposed to be like that TWO WEEKS AGO. I'm 32. Now, let's talk about literal thinking.

It took me a while to realize I had special interests bc before I always saw it talked about in regards to academics, about memorizing an encyclopedic amount of facts about something technical, and I always thought "Yeah no way I'm the same, I'm really into this fandom, and think all the time about this media, and can spend whole days only reading fanfictions of those characters, but I'm not a walking encyclopedia of a subject so of course it doesn't apply to me"

I took "practising facial expressions" too literally and thought it meant like, setting aside time in your day to practice. I was like no I don't do that. Until I remembered that in a big social or overwhelming environment I'll go to the bathroom to recover for a minute and smile at myself in the mirror until I think it looks natural enough to go back out, because when I'm overwhelmed I stop being able to put on a "natural" happy expression (mask)
