we understand that Martin will never finish the books because he's throwing a tantrum, right? he's upset that the fans picked up on the foreshadowing in his book and figured out who John is. that's why are new book hasn't come out in 14 years.

Fair take, I feel like Suzanne Collins would do better. She’s at least more consistent and has less plot holes while keeping the sappy awkward romance and writes different perspectives pretty well. Plus the Gregor series shows she can write mystery adjacent stuff

No Brandon Sanderson fan actually wants this. I like both worlds but they’re incompatible philosophies. That’s it. That’s why he doesn’t want to do it and it wouldn’t work. People keep making claims about who’s the better author and it doesn’t matter.

The obsession with Sanderson is he’s the only example they personally know of where someone finished another author’s series posthumously, and he’s very good at hitting deadlines. Unlike Robert Jordan, George isn’t writing furiously and just running out of time. He’s stuck. So obviously if you’re giving your wishlist for a person to finish it you’re going to pick someone who seemingly doesn’t get stuck. You wouldn’t want to hand it off to someone who sits on it for another decade.

Brandon was relatively not well known when he finished Wheel of Time. He was a fan who also happened to have published a couple of his own books. He’s not for ASOIAF. If anyone, a less well known author who has been a fan for years.

Brilliant idea! I propose: Stephenie Meyer, Sarah J Maas, Cassandra Clare, Samantha Shannon each write their own ending. We vote on the best one and that one becomes cannon. Even funnier if GRRM does release WOW and ADOS in the future

After listening to him lecture a bit, Sanderson would never touch ASOIAF. It is a grimdark world based on the war of the roses written by a medevialist historian/author. Sanderson, although he does write about war, is diametrically opposed to the core themes of ASOIAF. Sanderson says himself that he wants goodness and hope and friendship to conquer all in his stories - which means he’s well aware that the core of his writing style is incompatible w GRRM’s. The books should definitely remain unfinished if GRRM can’t do it himself, but I really doubt that Sanderson is an actual option or even ever was. The person who asked GRRM that should really be ashamed…
