Birthdays are not “generic” it’s a yearly celebration. عيد comes from عاد - to return. Any returning (yearly, monthly etc) celebration other than the two Eid’s are not permissible. But graduation isn’t yearly so it’s allowed. If I’m wrong then pls advise me.

Did you realize there is no Quran or Sunnah in his response? The Prophet sala Allahu alayhi wa Salam saw them in madina celebrating a holiday( “a generic celebration “) and he told them Allah has given us two holidays in its place Eid al adha and fitr. Period.

Btw he is wrong and the proof is The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Madinah and the people had two days on which they would play. He said: ‘What are these two days?’ They said: ‘We used to play on them during the time of ignorance (Jāhiliyyah). The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘Allah has replaced them for you with something better than them: the Day of al-Adḥā and the Day of al-Fitr.’
