Where could I find a detailed map of Moria? I have hard time imagining all the turns they make and how every hall and room is situated.

I never thought about this. It actually is a brilliant design tactic. The Dwarves are so underrated.

I always assumed they had retractable drawbridges for freight

Yeah, basically a perfect choke point. Knowing the Dwarves, the bridge probably also had a secret collapse mechanism for the bridge. Since Gandalf’s magic was kinda meh I bet his staff hit the release button, rather than blowing up the bridge with magic.

It makes me wonder if the dwarves would have used some other works to get across without using the bridge or by widening it somehow when they weren’t at war that has just been lost to time.

On a side note, this makes me want to set a campaign where they gotta break into the city using a mismatched crew of professional misfits. I call it: Heist of The Rings.

pitty that Eru essentially cursed the dwarves because Aulé woke them up early. That the dwarves would always be a focal point of harassment by Morgoth's forces. But let's be honest, if dwarves didn't have to face such perils, they would have been the dominant, oppressive race, inflicting the same sort of evils upon their perceived foes. because their ability to craft, specifically as a society, far outshown that of the elves. they may have had Feanor, but the dwarves as a whole were far more equipped to craft the biggest wonders of the known world
