@filmthusiastofficial: Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman signed open-ended contracts for Eyes Wide Shut, agreeing to work on the project until Stanley Kubrick released them from it. At the time, they were married and among the most glamorous couples in Hollywood, which is believed that Kubrick used deliberately. He cast them not just for their acting but because their real-life relationship added an extra layer of tension and authenticity to the film. The shoot stretched on for more than 400 days, making it the longest continuous shoot in cinema history. Kubrick often kept Cruise and Kidman apart for crucial stretches. Kidman spent weeks filming intimate scenes with another actor for the fantasy sequences, while Cruise was run through endless takes in the film’s shadowy underworld. Because Cruise and Kidman were married in real life, the film blurred the lines between performance and reality. Their on-screen intimacy and estrangement felt more voyeuristic, dangerous, and lived-in, almost as though Kubrick was using their actual bond as material. They divorced two years after the film was released.
