the ocean is fine to swim in, just check the beach reviews (but avoid Santa Monica water, go more toward Malibu), there's loads of drag shows around West Hollywood/loads of Karaoke/queer comedy club/open mic night places in the valley.

Oceans- check warnings, avoid Santa Monica and Venice bc of ecoli. ALSO please read uo on Riptide safety just so you know about them. Fun things- museums, Mosaic Tile House, Griffith observatory, night markets, escape rooms, there’s jazz nights at some places, Universal Studios/Disneyland/Knotts Berry Farm, drag brunches, farmers markets. I know Torrid specifically caters to plus sizing, maybe there’s one in the Grove? As for neighborhoods, a lot of the main popular places in LA just aren’t affordable bc they are popular😢 however down into the South Bay and Long Beach is way more affordable and is very safe! Downtown Long Beach is very queer. Tips for LA- read all the signs before parking to avoid a ticket, boy howdy do they make them confusing here. Also I’ve heard the buses and trains are good to use during the day but rougher at night👍

Fun queer safe activities: mota La is hosting a free bud trimming party in the 23rd rsvp on their website, infinite loop La on instagram hosts speak easy MTG meetups, there are many many free jazz nights and open concerts all weekend in echo park and silver lake! I will tell you my secret fave spot: angels point at Elysian park. Bathrooms, trails, grills to cook, ice cre am trucks, and gorgeous views of dtla and dodgers stadium

I’m 3 hours up the coast so I don’t have all the answers really but the ocean for the most part should be fine as long as it hasn’t rained before hand or a red tide. Anaheim is a great place to walk around and explore around Disney. Theres a huge mall/shopping center on the outskirts called Northridge fashion Center that has lots of stores!
