@dr.benrein: It's easy to forget that you're the sum of a million microscopic systems... but once you think of it, you become painfully aware of how lucky you are to exist. So, appreciate your brain. Respect it. Admire it. And importantly, give it rest. Every moment you breathe, these tiny molecular pumps are working overtime to keep you upright, and let you take on the challenges of life. #thankyourbrain
Do smarter people’s brains consume more energy than less intelligent people

uhm no that's not how the brain works. there are 4 ions sodium, potassium, chlorine and calcium two are positively charged the other two are negatively charged and they create an electrical potential at the base of an axon. the ions in the cell stay in the cell.

Can you do a video about the surgery done when someone has a head injury and their brain swells? Specifically deconpressive craniectomy ?

and what's crazy. the potassium that goes inside the cell to help with the negative charge is also a POSITIVE ion

If there was an issue with the pump, or the brain couldn’t stay at -70Mv, would be the physical result then play out depending on what part of the brain? For instance we would see motor issues if it occurred in basal ganglia for example

Why can't the neurons be in a neutral state to start with then spike positive? Why does it have to be negative as a baseline?

I LOVE! Personally I’m obsessed with astronomy, but brain cells are just tiny planets & stars in our mushy universe, but seemingly more active. Science ❤️
