From my understanding, in the Fixed-Do system, accidentals don't affect the syllable sound. (B/Bb both be Ti in Fixed-Do) I have more experience in Movable-Do, so all you Fixed-Do fanatics out there, tell me how you were taught.

In fixed do, B is “si” not “ti.”

For me, using solfège is about getting a feel for where a note fits into a scale regardless of the key. With fixed do you might as well just sing note names.

Wouldn't the B-flat be 'Te' in a true fixed Do?

Fixed do is ridiculous and does not help students understand interval relationships in different keys. Movable do is and has always been better

Hear me out, just sing the note names at that point if you’re a fixed do lover. Otherwise, it’s moveable do all day.

Never learned movable do in all my years of choir - and we were invited to sing in Carnegie Hall.

I understand the appeal of fixed Do but singing Ti instead of Te resulted in a B natural instead of a B flat.

I’ve heard that using fixed do makes more people have perfect pitch, but, movable do just helps kids understand the relationships better. For me, movable do and la based minor is the way to go.

AMoveable pisses me off so much, because DO is C. Proper solfège doesn’t work with anything else because there’s no unique name for Mi (E) and Ti (B) sharp. Also, the entire system is based on half steps, adding to the problem.

Just wanna reiterate it shouldn’t be about preference. There are use cases for each and teachers teach better when they’re aware. Moveable Resting Tone is the one for audiation. Fixed doesn’t offer anything over letter names in that area. Should call it Fixed DOn’t 😂

Degree from fixed-Do university. Each of the specific pitches have a syllable. Bb should be Te, rhymes with say. As this video is, subtitles are Lydian while melody sang is Ionian.

This brings back so much nostalgia! I really miss being in a choir and it takes me back to middle/high school where I attended choir for about 5 years!

Never heard of movable do before, wouldn't that mess up the intervals? We changing modes or something? Feels weird.

in countries that don’t use the english alphabet fixed do is more common. all of the english letters used in music are 1 syllable but that isn’t consistent throughout language so they will say things like si b instead of Bb. (they also often use si instead of ti) That is what note names are. I understand fixed do when used as note names, but movable do is much preferred because of how it allows for education on just intonation and ease of finding the tonic.
