26yr oil filter engineer here, if you want to see how they perform, plug the open end with a rubber stopper that has a hole in it so you can pressurize it from the inside out. submerege it side ways in isopropyl alcohol and slowly add air pressure, if you get large bubbles coming from the end discs or the media clip it is bypassing, if you get foamy bubbles that is called full permation and it is a good filter. this is how every oil mfg tests for bypasses

This isn’t just in the car industry, it’s every industry!! A lot of products were literally manufactured in the same batch just labeled differently and sent somewhere else for them to sell

Unfortunately, you can't rely on that. They constantly renegotiate supplier contracts. You could open another one next month and find a completely different filter.

My grandfather worked at the Goodyear tire factory in Toronto back in the 50s. They would change the stamping after each run and the new stamping would be used for economy tires like Canadian Tire brands. Exact same tire and tread just a different company stamped on the rubber, the Goodyear stamped tires were almost double the price.

Just like a lot of parts, oil manufacturers and tool companies they are only so many factories they can come out of. They just change the label and price point for every name brand

I work in a private owned auto store named Collinwood Auto Parts in Collinwood TN. Yep, carquest in my opinion makes a pretty good filter, my boss always said baldwin made them but im not 100% sure if they do now. They are alot better quality than our cheap parts master brand. We also carry Wix, ACdelco, motorcraft and carquest. The acdelco is one you would expect to be good but it is bad quality compared to wix or motorcraft. One more thing, the only difference in the red and blue carquest is the silicone color, like you seen, one is red and one is black. Cheaper red filter has black rubber and blue premium has red silicone. But the filter pleats and grade are the same. Glad you put this video out there. I try to explain this to customers alot.

it's the warranty that changed really if the filter failed witch one would replace the engine but will say it's extremely unlikely that the filter would be the issue

Spent some time working at a whirlpool plant. They wouldn't change anything except the handles and screen printed glass while producing 5 or 6 different brands. All of the functional components were the same.

just buy the cheapest filter and change it often with a synthetic oil. Oil filters aren’t killing engines its the engineers, government, epa, and lazy/broke owners that are killing engines. Cool display but not the root cause of engine failures.
