@friendofjims: In 1959s Some Like it Hot starring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemon. Curtis and Lemon play guys pretending to be girls to get work in an all girl’s band as the depression hits and their bootlegging catches up with them. Curtis’ character is gone for Monroe and to help him Curtis begs Lemon to pretend to be interested in a wealthy suitor so he can get Monroe alone. The suitor played by Joe E Brown is smitten from the start, not knowing Lemons character is a straight man. Once all characters flee on a boat piloted by Brown’s character Monroe and Curtis make up, and Lemon tries to gently let Brown down. But Brown isn't dissauded by anything. So lemon levels with him. Brown still doesn't care and that's how our film ends. Writer Billy Wilder was so proud of the last line (often cited as the best of his career) that its on his tombstone. While the film predates most Americans familiarity with crossdressing or what trans was there's an undeniable queerness to it
