@missnearingsmontessori: Just my two cents on the water bottle problem 👀 #teachersoftiktok #kindergartenteacher #montessoriteacher #backtoschool #firstdayofschool
PS. Not my job to monitor 24 kids personal hydration. I’m busy teaching.

my kids at HOME will say “i’m starving i haven’t eaten all day” same with water. they’re toddlers, they have in fact eaten, they just don’t understand time.

“COVID BABY” says it all! I spoiled my kid so much that he can’t take a water bottle out of his bag when he’s asked too. Let’s face it, the teacher told them all to grab their bottles!

I think we as parents also forget that we went to school in the era of “no drinks in the classroom”. So her son was fine.

Another point, some kids (like my son) would actually not stop having fun for food, water, or the bathroom. For hours and hours. Even if we said, ok everyone, water break! on a hot day. We’d specifically have to hand him a drink and tell him to drink. Until he was about 8. I did in fact have a convo with his teachers and caregivers about this and they were awesome about making sure he was hydrating.

As a preschool teacher, my students are only allowed to drink water during snack time (unless they are having a coughing fit or it’s in their IEP/504 or some other special circumstance). Oh also we stop at the drinking fountain after gym. Never had a parent complain

My 4yr old tells me “you’re taking ages” when I tell her I will help her in just a minute.

That’s goes for age groups. Always get all sides of the story before any reaction/retaliation/confirntation.

Yup! My son in first grade claims he was on his iPad “all day” due to his teacher doing testing…I get it. But he also had 3 worksheets sent home that day soooooo that’s at least an hour and a half he was NOT on an iPad. Then recess, lunch, music and PE😅

I usually judge by how much water is left in the bottle 🤷🏻♀️

Miss Nearing, you said "expescially" then " I havent drinkin water". Agree with your view on this. It's very learned helplessness. Preschoolers and kinders need to learn body cues, self care and parents are sabotaging their independence.

My kid came home dying of thirst her first week and we giggled about it and chugged water together on the blacktop

Sadly, more and more parents aren’t sending their kids to pre-K or even parents stay out so they have no idea how to behave when they go to kindergarten

Our kids have their own water bottle for lunch, but we have a water source in the classroom with small cups that they can pour their own so when they go home with a full water bottle, I always tell parents like yeah they’re using our water. Or maybe the water bottle was refilled.

At my preschool, for 2.5 and up we have a spot for water bottles and they’re responsible for getting their water. Of course we remind them through the day and help them as needed, but it really helps build their independence and confidence with listening to their own body cues. By the time they’re 4 they’re rocking it

As a mom of a first grader I 💯% agree with everything you said …especially the time concept. Also every parent knows exactly what their child is capable off so that mother needs to continue working on her child with simple self sufficient life skills

I had a kid go home saying she was kicked in the head. Mom messaged me livid: explanation: we were doing cosmic kids yoga on the carpet and they were a little too close to each other. The child made it seem way worse than it was.

Not me saying my son has no concept of time. He tells me he did something 24hours ago when he did it 3 minutes ago 🙃
