Couldn’t disagree more with the 1,000 a year thing. When the average payment is 605$ now a month. The rest I can see.

If it’s a Toyota not burning oil .. you keep it unless you have lots of money.

Sorry for your loss, I had a VW and it was constantly being towed back to dealership because it wouldn’t start. I had no money to buy a different vehicle. Finally a family member loaned me some money and I got another car. I hated that car

Repairing an older car is always better then buying a New car every 3 years or the repairs on new cars or finance. Anything my 2001 Honda Accord needs, it gets. Cuz repairing that will always be cheaper than buying new.

i dont see the point in selling as you could get a new car that has the exact same problems where if you fix it you know its sorted for a good while

Rule #1 doesn't really work for cheap cars. Repairing may still be cheaper than finding a replacement.

Why did you say Japanese cars? I’ve never had an issue my Japanese cars they lasted about 300,000 miles. You must be mistaken. It could be American cars, mostly Ford Dodge and German cars like Volkswagen.

Mechanic here as well as a shop owner here and I really try to tell customers as long as it’s not rusted or neglected keep fixing it with quality parts. Yeah 4-5k big repair is expensive but what are you really getting for 4-5k used or if you go new rout is it worth paying 5-800 a month on a new one? When that cost is surpassed in 7 months.

Why would you sell if the repair is worth more than the car you already lose money why not fix the car and have a piece in mind that the car is gonna be fixed instead of selling and going in to a car that has more problems that you won’t know about or is more money than the original car..
