You are mixing up the working principle of a diesel engine and a petrol engine. Petrol engine doesnt use the pressure to ignite the mixture instead they use a spark. Diesels use the compression to start it.

Gasoline doesn't go boom when compressed, it has a spark plug. Diesel however does go boom when compressed.

for europeans: regular gas is above premium in the usa, as here the basic its 95, and the premium is 98. Meanwhile, in the us regular is 85, and premium a bit more
