Good job can have the following effects: ❌ Impacts Intrinsic Motivation: Excessive praise can shift a child’s motivation from internal satisfaction to seeking external validation. Children might start to perform tasks primarily to receive praise rather than for the inherent enjoyment or interest in the activity itself. ❌ Specificity: “Good job” is a vague and general statement. It doesn’t provide specific feedback about what the child did well. More detailed feedback helps children understand exactly what behaviors or actions were effective, encouraging them to replicate those behaviors in the future. ❌ Dependency: Children can become reliant on praise to feel good about themselves, which can undermine their self-esteem. They may struggle with self-assessment and self-motivation if they are always looking for external approval.
