@jackmarriott88: Before Toyota became a car giant, they were importing looms from England in the 1890s. Within decades, Japan went from copying our machines to beating us at our own game. Walking round this museum, you realise how quickly the balance of power can shift. #UKtok #HistoryTok #Toyota #JapanTrip #Perspective

British engineering was the best in the world for decades, whether it was textile machinery, automotive, aircraft, railway. Unfortunately, manufacturing has been a dirty word to our politicians since the 1960s. They prefer to base the economy on banking and services. Sad really.

you need to go check out a museum on Japanese wood carpentry skills it is insane, not only how intricately precise but also how complex some of the interlocking cuts are, as a builder it blew my mind .

Japan beat the west in our own game. I remember the memoirs of some british diplomat, he remembered his service as an envoy to Shogunate, he said when he just got his post he was staying in a wooden hut, and the city he was stationed in produced woven baskets and bamboo boats for fishing. After 40 years of his service, he remarked that shipyards of the city were producing steel battleships and destroyers no less impressive and massive than the ones he saw in London. I saw it on youtube channel “voices of the past”, there memoirs of various people are read outloud with sources and illustrations.

How do you think the Italians feel or the Spanish feel or the Persians feel and probably one day, the Americans will feel in regards to the Chinese? The fate of every empire

The uk is definitely a third world country. Everyone who wants to work are struggling to get a job. We have no industry whatsoever. Why are we wasting time and money went we got tons of coal in the uk for example. You know why we don't mine it anymore, because the companies that ran the mines got greedy.

Japan learned a lot from Britain. Shipbuilding in particular was essential to Japan's development. Japan became a major shipbuilding power. However, it has now been overtaken by Korea and China, who learned Japanese shipbuilding technology. Japan is following the same path as Britain.
