The smells of the highlands filled my nose. Moist grass, musty wool, the sweat and grime of goats, and crisp mountain air all intermingled to form what I knew best. My home. I watched as the birds roosted frantically above my head. That was breakfast. All I had to do was get there. Porcelain eggs waitied in their high nests ready for their insides to meet the heat of my cast iron and eventually my own insides. My stomachs growled, my skin was taught from the cold, and my legs ached as I climbed. The highlands were cruel but my hunger, my resilience, my history… was crueler. (I’m not Scandinavian I was just inspired by your song to write this bit of micro fiction 😂)
